Sister Catherine Pfleger, RSM
Sister Cathy, was born in Huntington, Long Island, New York; the oldest of four children. After graduating from Ithaca College with a degree in Health and Physical Education, she took her first teaching job in Rochester. Here she met the Sisters of Mercy at St. Charles Borromeo Parish and after a few years she joined the Mercy Community. She went on to teach at Mercy High School for twelve years where she developed a successful program and coached Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. Father Gerry Dunn invited her to join the staff at St. Theodore´s in 1987. Here with the help of Fr. Dunn, Deacon John Giugno and Rita Manners she learned all she knows about liturgy and pastoral work. She has seen the parish through a number of transitions with new pastors, the renovation of the Church, etc. She has always been available to care for the people at St. Theodore´s as the needs arise. She felt like she came home in 1987 and she still feels that way today!
A mother of five, grandmother of eight and great grandmother of 3, Rita has been in music ministry for 50 years. She is certified as a Music Director by the Diocese of Rochester and has studied organ since 1987.Her inspiration is giving back to God and to the parishioners the gifts that have been given to her. She feels it is a privilege to serve the people at St. Theodore´s!
