The Music Ministry at St. Theodore’s Parish strives to bring the gospel of Jesus to light through music that is spirit-filled, leading the congregation in worship and providing the parishioners a way to share their gifts to be an integral part of the Mass. In this way we can spread the word of God while also enabling all the singers and instrumentalists to grow spiritually on their journey through life.
Sing to the Lord (Music in Divine Worship) from the Liturgy Documents states that music is a way for God to lead us to the realm of higher things. St. Augustine says, "Singing is for the one who loves", and is therefore a sign of God's love for us and of our love for him. Music is prayer and singing helps us to participate more fully at Mass. At St. Theodore's, there are many opportunities for musicians, singers and instrumentalists to give back to God and our parish family the gifts and talents that God has given them.
St. Theodore’s Choir is open to men, women, and teenagers who would like to sing choral & contemporary music in a variety of styles either in unison or two and four part harmony. We sing at 9:00AM mass on Sundays from October to June and for special celebrations throughout the year. We are accompanied by organ, piano, acoustic and bass guitars, depending on the style of music. Rehearsals take place each Wednesday evening at 7:00 in the Parish Life Center.
Rock of Faith
Rock of Faith is a contemporary ensemble, aka rock style band that ministers at masses focused on parish youth. The group plays once or twice a month at the 9:00AM mass through the course of the school year. Weekly rehearsals are on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00.
Cantors are the leaders of sung prayer and the ones who sing the psalm at Mass. Some cantors are choir members, but that is not a requirement to be a cantor. Cantors also sing at other liturgies and prayer services throughout the year. Some training is required and available from the director of music.
St. Theodore’s Handbell Choir enhances our sung prayer at mass once a month and on special celebrations such as Christmas and Easter. It is open to men, women and students. Ringing is a lot of fun, and bell ringers are needed at this time. The ability to read music is helpful but not required. Training on a one-to-one basis is available. Rehearsals are on Tuesday afternoons at 4:30. This bell choir is available to ring at weddings.
Instrumentalists such as flutists, cellists, oboists, violinists add so much to our Sunday celebrations and special times during the year. If you play an instrument and would like to give back to God the talent he has given you, please consider joining our music ministry.
